MY ROLES:

Writer & Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Editor

PRODUCTION YEARS

2009-2013

DURATION:

83 mins

SYNOPSIS:

The Director of 101 DALMATIANS, THE MIGHTY DUCKS and BILL & TED'S EXCELLENT ADVENTURE presents another hilarious hit comedy!

Goofball Kid Campbell ("the very likeable Dan Cannon") dreams to follow in the backwards footsteps of his childhood hero, 100m reverse-running legend John Jones ("real-life marathon icon Steve Moneghetti"). After mastering Coach Leroy's wacky training routines, Kid competes against other 'back-letes' at the Alternate Athletics... if you've dreamt it, they've got an event for it. Together the unlikely heroes must overcome cocky arch-rival Steven 'SJ' James, defy Kid's disapproving dad and prove that life isn't always straight forward.

Co-starring Bianca Linton, Rhys Mitchell, comedian Dave Callan and featuring a cameo from Australia's favourite sports commentator Bruce McAvaney, REVERSE RUNNER is a "big-hearted small town comedy" that will have the entire family cheering all the way to the finish line!

*Simon Foster, SBS Film

PRODUCTION NOTES:

Principal photography on REVERSE RUNNER involved over 300 people. The majority of the film was shot in the country town of Colac in Victoria, Australia. Other locations include the John Landy Athletic Field Geelong, Melbourne Park and the world-renowned landscapes at Lavers Hill along the Great Ocean road.

The film comprises over 300 invisible visual effects shots, mostly adding background crowd to the athletics scenes.

Thomas E Rouch composed the orchestral score for the film. Rouch collaborated with singers James Cupples, Nicholas Roy and Sid O'Neil, re-recording some of Australia's classic rock songs including 'Run to Paradise' by The Choirboys and 'Most People I Know (Think That I'm Crazy)' by Billy Thorpe. Rouch and Cupples also covered 'Walk Right In' by Dr Hook.

Sid O'Neil, lead singer from the Vasco Era recorded vocals for an original music track titled 'Backwards As They Come'. Tinpan Orange duo Emily and Jesse Lubitz recorded vocals for an original song titled 'Fallen Dreams', composed by Thomas E Rouch.

Australian musical icon Mike Brady, who wrote football anthems 'Up There Cazaly' and 'One Day in September', recorded the voiceover for REVERSE RUNNER's theatrical trailer.

I wrote the lyrics and melody of 'Backwards As They Come' and composed the oiriginal song, 'Working For The Man', produced by Rouch and performed by Nicholas Roy.
