MEET CHIP & EDITH

PROMOTIONAL CLIP FOR ODDBALL

MY ROLES:

Editor, Cinematographer, Sound Recordist

PRODUCTION YEAR:

2015

DURATION:

90 seconds

SYNOPSIS:

Two of Seaworld’s Little Penguins, Chip and Edith, fell in love on the set of ODDBALL and nested together when they returned home. When Producer Richard Keddie heard of their happy ending, he instantly knew it would be delightful fodder for a feel-good promotional piece for the film’s release.

PRODUCTION NOTES:

Although we had amassed countless hours of on-set footage from the behind-the-scenes shoot, we needed to show Chip and Edith happily living together in their brand new nest. So Richard and myself flew down to SeaWorld on the Goldcoast and were thrilled to discover another surprise... they had very recently made an egg!

Originally our storytellers were going to be the remarkable penguin trainers, Katy Brock and John Medland. They took a break from filming the latest PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movie and we shot a lovely conversational interview with the pair.

In the edit it quickly became clear that we needed to adopt a snappier storytelling device to meet the brisk 90-second runtime. So we scripted a voice over and enlisted the vocal talents of radio presenter Jo Stanley.

The clip was colour graded by Chris Tompkins at READY TO ROLL and sound mixed by Lachlan Harris. The orchestral music was taken from Cezary Skubiszewski’s film score.

DISTRIBUTION:

The promotional clip screened as a prelude to the film at the various premieres. It also played at cinemas across Australia as a unique marketing hook for the film. It has 25,000 views on YouTube.
