BAD BUSINESS

MY MEDIA PROJECT AT SECONDARY SCHOOL (BE WARNED)

MY ROLES:

Writer & Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Editor

PRODUCTION YEAR:

2004

DURATION:

10 minutes

SYNOPSIS:

An action-packed screwball comedy that’s so bad... it’s good.

Super agents Randy Thrust and Rupert Knox must track down criminal mastermind Larry and his ‘Left Hand Man’ in order to stop a drug and weapons syndicate.

PRODUCTION NOTES:

I shot BAD BUSINESS on a camcorder for my VCE Media class when I was 15... so go easy on me! The film was inspired by the action of The Matrix, the characters of Starsky & Hutch and the comedy of Get Smart.

Remarkably, several of my classmates in this film have gone on to enjoy full time careers in the entertainment industry:

- Luke Goodall, who co-wrote the script and played Agent Randy Thrust, has found success as an online comedian in the sketch-duo “Goodall & Ghalleger”.

- Lachlan Harris, who played Larry and composed the music, went onto sound edit Wolf Creek 2 and is working full time as a sound designer.

- Beau Comelli, who played The Left Hand Man, is currently touring the world as a male stripper in Thunder From Down Under.

DISTRIBUTION:

VCE Season of Excellence "Top Screen" distributed the film to all Victorian Secondary Schools on a compilation DVD.

I was part of a theatrical screening and QnA at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).

AWARDS:

BAD BUSINESS was one of 14 short films selected in the VCE Season of Excellence ‘Top Screen’ category; celebrating the best narratives, music videos and documentaries from around the state.
